The story of Brian of Nazareth (Graham Chapman), born on the same day as Jesus of Nazareth, who takes a different path in life that leads to the same conclusion. Brian joins a political resistance movement aiming to get the Romans out of Judea. The movement is not very effective but somehow Brian becomes a prophet and gathers his own following. His fate is sealed however and he lives a very short life.
Where to watch Monty Python’s Life of Brian (US)
A Beatle bought the house
The studio pulled out days before filming, and Beatles guitarist George Harrison stepped in and reportedly put up his house to finance it. It was banned in several places, and one famous ad promoted it as the film so funny it was banned in Norway. They filmed in Tunisia, using sets left over from another film about Jesus.
Banned in Norway
A man named Brian is born in the stable next door and is mistaken for the Messiah. It's irreverent, clever and hysterical, and the closing song is a classic. The Pythons are at the top of their game. Still hilarious.
